I feel the coolest thing about travelling and loving to travel is that every single day you can find new things that surprise, and that you'd never thought could exist. Monsanto is an example of such a place.
This magical place, hidden in the Portuguese countryside is peculiar due to to how its streets and houses are merged with giant boulders and rocks, making it look like a Flinstone villange.
At the top of the 400 feet high hill in the center of the village stands a very old square built castle. The castle played an important role in Medieval times when the Templars Grand Master built a castle which withstood several battles including the Napoleonic invasions.
In 1938, the town was bestowed the most “Portuguese town in Portugal.”
