other than 的用法

other than有两个基本意思：
A）“不同于” 相当于 different from; “并非”表示否定意义。
B）“除……之外”, 表示排除意义, 相当于except ；
A. other than“不同于”“并非”, 表示这一意思时，other than组成的短语
在句中可作表语或定语。
1）The truth is quiteother thanwhat you think.
事实真相和你想的完全不同。
2）Certainly, my associates and pursuits shall beother thanthey have been.
当然，现在我所来往的人，我所追求的事物，将和以前不同。
3）Here is a IC cardother thanyours.
这里有一张的 IC 卡，不是你的。（原意为：这里有一张不同于你的IC 卡）
4）Reactionsother thanthe desired oneoften occur when the reactants are
brought together.
当这些反应物放在一起时，常发生不希望有的一些反应。（原意为：当这些反应物
放在一起时，常发生与希望有的反应不同的反应。）
B.other than用于表示“除……之外”，相当于except。其用法分述如下：
uother than 置于名词之后，表示“除……之外，其他都……”的意思。此时，
other than组成的短语在句中作定语，修饰前面的名词。
1）The presence of elementsother thanironwill greatly affect the physical
properties of steel.
除铁以外的其它元素的存在将大大影响钢的物理性质。
2）Cruisesother thanthe ones listed beloware not discounted at this time.
在这段期间，除下列所列的邮轮外，其他邮轮都不打折。
3）There are similar charges if you want to cash a cheque at a branchother
than your own.
如果你想在开户行以外的网点兑现支票，都要收取类似的费用。
4）He said there was no reason why companiesother than Boeing and Airbus
could not enter the business.
他表示说，除了波音和空客以外其它航空公司都不能进入这一业务领域是没有理
由的。
5）Under some conditions chemical energy is liberated during a chemical reaction in
formsother than heat.
在某些条件下，在化学反应期间，化学能还能以除了热能以外的其它形式释放出来。
uother than位于anything、nothing、something、anybody、anyone 等不
定代词的后面，此时other than组成的短语在句中作定语，修饰前面的不定代词。
1）The agreement cannot be signed byanyoneother thanyourself.
除你本人之外，别人都不能签署这项协议。
2）The journey by road to Wolverhampton is not recommended toanyone other
thanthe most experienced cyclist.
除了经验非常丰富的自行车手外，建议其他人不要走去伍尔弗汉普顿的那条道。
3）None other thanyourself can help you to solve the problem.
在这个问题上，除了自己没有人能帮得了你。
4）The lawyer seldom wearsanything other thana suit whatever the season.
无论什么季节，律师除了穿套装外，很少穿其他衣服。
5）Butanything other thana straight in-or-out question may result in a damaging
wrangle.
但除了直截了当的去留问题之外，任何其他问题都可能导致有破坏性的争吵。
6）Can you talk aboutsomething other thanscandal affairs?
除了桃色新闻外，你就不能谈点别的吗？
7）You neednothingother thanthe ability to communicate with people, to handle
basic paperwork, and common sense.
你只需要具有与人沟通，处理基本文书工作的能力和常识。
uother than组成的短语在句中用作状语，可位于句首或句尾。 此时相当于 except、
except for 用法。
1）Other thanthat the nearest store was five miles away, it was a perfect
location.
除了最近的商店在五英里外，这里的地理位置好极了。
2）She declined to comment furtherother thanto say that charges had not
been brought.
除了说检察官还没有提起诉讼外，她拒绝进一步评论。
3）She was numb to all issuesother thanthe one which is concerned about
her own interests.
除了与自己利益有关的问题外, 她对其他什么问题都漠不关心。
4）I volunteer because I love my city and I need to give back something to itother

u other than 常用用于否定句，表示“除……之外，无（没有）……”的意思。
1）Other than one sister, she has no close relatives.
除了有一个姐姐，她没有其他亲戚。
2）She has never been to a big cityother thanChicago.
除芝加哥外她没有去过别的大城市.
3）Other than Mr. Connelly, none of this group was injured in the accident.
除康纳利先先生外, 其它人在这次事故中都未受伤。
4）It is relative insensitivity toother thanred and infrared lights.
除了对红光, 红外线光外，它对其它光相对来说都是不敏感的。
5）I hadn't done any car maintenanceother thanblowing up a tire.
除了给轮胎充气外，我没做过任何汽车保养。
uother than后接指示代词 that，表示“除此之外”的意思。that指代前面句
中所述内容。
1）We’re going away in June butother than thatI’ll be here allsummer.
六月份我们要离开这里，但除此之外，整个夏天我都会在这里。
2）His ribs were damaged, butother than thathe's in good nick.
他的肋骨受了损伤，但除此之外一切都还好。
3）After I exercised, my feet felt a little better, butother than that, there was
no much difference " she said.

4）I made a few double faults at the end of the second set.Other than that, I feel
